Waterbury “Bruce” Oak Wall Regulator
This is an exception example of a 1880’s wall regulator by Waterbury “Bruce”. If you like clean and original clocks than you need to continue. This is a Large clock at just over 38 inches and 13 ¾ inches wide. It is Oak and it is Solid Oak, not veneered. I have seen this clock a number of times but this is the first time I have seen one with the top. Waterbury built and shipped this model with a removable top. They were made with pegs to fit into. And when you think about things like this you can understand why you do not see the top very often. Some where in their life the top and the bottom got separated and usually that means they never met again. But for here and now this clock has the top and the bottom. This is a very clean offering and with out
hesitation I can tell you that you can unpack it and hang it. The
originality is the killer….with the exception of the hands, this is how I
came off the factory floor. The hands are Waterbury hands but are newer
and probably only 40 years old. Please note than the pendulum and rod are
correct and original. It is not often that they are this clean and this
original. The Cathedral Gong is the top end of the Waterbury offerings
and it has a great sound. One area of special note is the Dial. These were all Painted dial and often there is a lot of paint loss. Fact is typically you will see these with new dial because of the amount of paint loss over the years. In this case, there is a very small amount of touch up on the dial. Some of you will not read and further, but keep reading. The touch up is correct, very little, probably 75 years old, and it is not noticeable. Ever in the pictures you do not see the small areas of redo. My personal judgment is this is not a problem and if you buy the Bruce and find it not so I will refund fifty dollars and you can keep the clock. Hopefully you see that I really feel this is a non issue.
