Early American Banjo Clock
For your consideration, I have a wonderful American Banjo Clock. This is unsigned but has all the marks of Geoge Hatch, Attleboro, Mass, Ca 1850. It is the classic Banjo being 29 inches long, which is the same as a Howard 5, in mahogany case, which is 8-day running weight drive. The case, movement and dial appear to be original
and pendulum bob and the rod, the weight, and bottom shield for the weight
seam to also be original. I do have a caution here because it is
hard to prove this one way or the other. Study the pictures and be
assured that they are all old and if not original, they are at least
correct for the period. The case is in very good condition
and has been restored with no major issues. The dial plate appears
to be original and matches the case. The dial is 7 inches in diamante
and has been professional repainted. The top glass is original and
old which the neck and bottom are new. This does appear to be identical to a Howard 5 and it could well be an early Howard. During the 1845- 1855 the movements are not always marked by the makers. I feel it is from Hatch based on the case and the style of the movement. I am not an expert in this field and am open to other opinions on the maker of this clock. To my mind these early Banjos are a part of the American Clock Heritage I hope we never loss. The Banjo is one of the first unique clock styles that this country developed that is strictly American. These very desirable early Banjos are few and not often offer for sale. This would make a great centerpiece for a collection or a statement for your home.
THE REQUESTED AMOUNT FOR THE 1850
AMERICAN BANJO IS $1475.00. THE BID NUMBER IS ITEM CO2
