Ansonia Hanging Clock Number 3 BThe Ansonia Company did many things to satisfy customer’s needs in the later 1880’s to the 1920’s. The offering here is the Ansonia Hanging Assortment Number 3 B. This is a nicely done hanging clock in double pressed oak. The term double pressed refers to items that were pressed deeply and usually twice. The objective was to get a deeper image in the wood that the lower to middle end clock’s had. This is working and a reasonable keeper of time and can be used when you get it. The case has been cleaned and the dial, hands and pendulum do appear to be original. There were sold at whole sale to individuals that would buy groups of them…there were three different clocks in this series. The individual would than box up single clocks and travel to the smaller cities and villages and sell them one at a time. At the turn of the century, this was an effective way of distributing some products out side of the main cities. This is an attractive clock and one not seen too often. It is complete except for two braces on the back. This, of course, does not affect the clocks performance and looks because this is not seen. She is 26 inches long and is 8-day time and strike on the hour and the half hour. It is oak and has not defects or issues. These sold for just over 4.00 in 1895. A nice clock, which I am sure, you will enjoy.
