Seth Thomas City Series ‘Greek’ Clock

This is a great classic clock for the beginner, advanced collector, or if you are just looking for that one clock in your home or the office. This is the Seth Thomas City Series ‘Greek’ and the name came about because of the urn on top and the columns on the side.  This Clock is from the 1885 time frame.

The Columns are grooved and above each is their capital and ornate top.  This is a large Clock at 24 inches high.  It is plain yet has a lot of character. There is a partial label on the inside at the base. This is an 8-day clock that strikes on the hour, the wood is American Walnut and it is beautiful. There are a few nicks here and there but nothing to be of concern.

There are some features I would have you consider:
The dial has a little loss of the original paint. Typically, they have been replaces with new paper dials.  Here it   is still all original.

The pendulum is correct and original for this clock.  It is one of Seth’
better Pendulums that were used for the best mantels clocks.

The Nickel bell is original and has a great sound.
The movement is the Large Seth movement and it still has the Winding stops.
The Glass may or may not be original.  Other than this, she is as straight as you will find them.

It is a very strong runner although it will benefit with a good cleaning.  My judgment is to use it as she stands for the next few years before you have it cleaned.
